"Maintaining the legacy of a century-old business group while modernizing it to meet contemporary needs and creating value for all stakeholders." — Leadership Philosophy
A blend of business heritage, educational excellence, and strategic vision — from family legacy to industrial leadership transforming India's textile landscape.
Gautam Hari Singhania was born on September 9, 1965, into the illustrious Singhania family, one of India's most prominent Marwari industrialist families. He is the son of Vijaypat Singhania, former Chairman of Raymond Group, and Ashabai Singhania.
Growing up in the business-centric environment at JK House in Mumbai, Gautam was exposed early to entrepreneurship and corporate governance. His grandfather, Lala Kailashpat Singhania, acquired Raymond Woolen Mill in 1944, transforming it into India's premier fabric manufacturer—a legacy that instilled in Gautam a deep sense of responsibility toward innovation and excellence.
Gautam Singhania received his education at Mumbai's prestigious St. Mary's School and Cathedral and John Connon School. He earned a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) degree with Honors from H.R. College of Commerce and Economics, gaining a strong foundation in business, finance, and economics that would prove instrumental in his corporate journey.
In 1986, Gautam commenced his career by joining the JK Group of companies, gaining valuable experience in industrial operations, supply chain management, financial planning, and market dynamics. This hands-on exposure across various business verticals provided invaluable insights into managing diversified industries in India's complex economic environment.
In 1990, Gautam joined Raymond Group as a Director at age 25. His operational excellence and strategic vision led to rapid advancement—becoming Managing Director in July 1999 and Chairman and Managing Director in September 2000, assuming complete leadership of the iconic conglomerate.
Upon taking charge, Gautam demonstrated remarkable foresight by divesting Raymond's non-core businesses in steel, cement, and synthetics. This bold move allowed focus on core competencies in textiles, strengthened branded apparel (Park Avenue, ColorPlus, Parx), and expanded into FMCG, real estate, and engineering.
Under his leadership, Raymond became the world's largest integrated manufacturer of worsted suiting fabric and, in 2015, the first textile company globally to produce Super 250s fabric—the finest quality wool fabric available.
Gautam's most ambitious achievement came with "Raymond 2.0" in 2024-2025—India's largest textile sector restructuring. He orchestrated a strategic demerger creating three independently-listed companies:
This restructuring unlocked massive shareholder value and positioned each vertical for accelerated growth.
